This qualification is an excellent introduction into the hair and beauty sector. It allows students to have a good insight of the industry and is a pathway to many careers. Business and entrepreneurship in the Hair & Beauty sector, anatomy, physiology and cosmetic science, design in the Hair & Beauty sector are subjects taught alongside the practical.

This course allows the student to grow in confidence, gain good communication skills and help artistic ability.

VTCT Level 2 Extended Diploma in Beauty Therapy

This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include: 

  • Health safety and hygiene
  • Consultation techniques and client care
  • Manicure treatments
  • Pedicure treatments
  • Waxing services
  • Facial treatments
  • Skin type analysis
  • Eyebrow shaping services
  • Eyelash and eyebrow tinting services
  • Make-up applications
  • Anatomy and physiology for beauty therapist

Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients whilst providing a range of beauty treatments including facial treatments, skin analysis, manicure, pedicure, waxing, eyelash/eyebrow treatments and make-up applications. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their
awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working and research skills will also be developed.

Key Stages 4 & 5

The Hair and Beauty department provide the students with clear deadlines as it is a coursework based subject. If you feel your child is struggling to meet a deadline on time please contact your child’s classroom teacher or Head of Faculty so as a department we can put necessary interventions in place to support your child. All deadlines should be met before or on the given date. Details of coursework deadlines are on Google Classroom. Revision materials for exams are distributed by the teacher. It may be required that you provide your child with materials to succeed in KS4. There is funding for pupil premium students available on request.
